(Yicai) Aug. 14 -- Chinese movies ‘Lost in the Stars,’ ‘Never Say Never’ and ‘Creation of the Gods’ have each raked in over CNY2 billion (USD275.6 million) at the box office this summer, breaking the previous record of CNY2 billion set in the summer of 2018, according to the latest data.

Mystery drama ‘Lost in the Stars’ grossed CNY3.5 billion (USD482 million), while ‘Never Say Never’ logged CNY2.1 billion and mythology epic ‘Creation of the Gods’ posted CNY2 billion as of Aug. 13, according to movie ticketing platform Alidengta Professional Edition.

Another film ‘No More Bets, which was released on Aug. 10, has also done very well, grossing CNY1.7 billion (USD234 million) at the box office in the first four days.

The film industry will continue to thrive in the second half as more highly anticipated films are released, additional policies to boost consumption come into play and more film vouchers are distributed in some regions, market insiders said.

The summer season has greatly boosted this year’s cinema takings, according to a report by Everbright Securities.

The record-breaking performance at the summer box office will ensure the recovery of the movie sector, Huaxi Securities reported.
