(Yicai) June 12 -- Microfibers made from simulated lunar soil, a six-legged robot dog used on Antarctic expeditions and brain-computer interface devices are just some of the cutting-edge tech that are on display at the 11th China (Shanghai) International Technology Import and Export Fair that kicked off today.

Nearly 1,000 companies and organizations from almost 20 countries and regions are exhibiting their latest products and technologies at the three-day event which is being held in the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center.

PIC1: A visitor admires a bionic android that boasts 30 motor-driven joints, platinum silicone skin, implanted synthetic hair and special effects makeup. Developed by Linksai, it can mimic nearly 100 facial expressions, communicate through voice-based large language models, understand spoken language, detect the emotions of whoever it is looking at and has built-in emotional management algorithms.

PIC2: A man tries out the multimodal brain-computer interface system developed by Arfisica Innovation. The system powers an ergonomically designed upper limb rehabilitation robot that helps patients of stroke and brain trauma as well as those recovering from surgery to the central nervous system recuperate through multi-joint exercises.

PIC3: Shanghai StairMed Technology showcases a wireless brain-computer interface system. The implant is powered wirelessly and is half the size of industry leader Neuralink’s. Implantation only requires drilling a small three-to-five-millimeter hole in the skull and the device can be installed using minimally invasive puncture surgery.

PIC4: A six-legged robot dog that has just returned from Antarctica takes pride of place at the China Polar Research Center’s booth. The bionic canine, which can walk in snow and on ice, took part in 41 missions with the Zhongshan Station Antarctic expedition team, helping to carry scientific research equipment and detect cracks in the ice.

PIC5: Modular production equipment that can make basalt fibers from simulated lunar soil takes center stage at the expo. Developed by the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials of Donghua University, the research team has also developed an automated spinning machine for creating fibers out of lunar soil in the Moon’s extreme conditions where there are no people, no air and low gravity.
