Mercedes-Benz Recalls Over 2,000 Imported Cars in China for Faulty Front Seats Mercedes-Benz Recalls Over 2,000 Imported Cars in China for Faulty Front Seats

(Yicai Global) Sept. 11 -- The China unit of Mercedes-Benz will recall over 2,000 imported executive cars due to a defect in front passenger seats.

Mercedes-Benz China filed a plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation to recall a total of 2,201 vehicles. The products affected include some 954 C-Class compact executive cars produced between April 11 and Aug. 4 last year. Some 1,247 E-Class long wheelbase vehicles made between April 11 and Aug. 1 in the same year will also be revoked.

Backrests of front passenger seats on some of the cars cannot be locked into a fixed position due to a production defect caused by the supplier. In the event of a collision, the backrests cannot provide sufficient support, thus exposing the passenger to increased safety risks.

The Beijing-based firm will check the locking devices of back supports and if necessary the company will install replacements with an enhanced locking mechanism to eliminate the safety hazard.
