(Yicai Global) Nov. 8 -- The first export product that has left Afghanistan for China since the shaken-up country's regime change in fall has become the latest live-streaming shopping trend during the China International Import Expo.

Some 120,000 portions of pine nuts from Afghanistan, packaged in 170-gram cans worth CNY148 (USD23) each, were sold for more than CNY10 million (USD1.6 million) during a Taobao live-streaming show on Nov. 6. The show focused on Asian and African CIIE exhibits.

A charter plane carrying 45 tons of Afghan pine nuts left Kabul on Oct. 31 and arrived in Shanghai on Nov. 1. The edible seeds are the first Afghan export product to China since Afghanistan's recent Taliban regime change.

Cargo trains between China and Afghanistan never paused, and agricultural product trade is resuming, Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a press release on Nov. 2.

The tiny pine nuts will be a delicacy for Chinese people, and also bring foreign currency to Afghanistan, easing many local farmers' income conditions, Wang added.

Pine nuts, which mostly grow in the mountainous Hindu Kush region, are a pricey treat in China due to the labor-intensive preparation process and inconvenient transport options. They are harvested each year between mid-September and mid-October.
