(Yicai Global) Nov. 17 -- The Beijing-based PetPlus, a pet product e-commerce company, has launched a cross-border supply chain to meet booming demand from Chinese pet owners for superior foods and products for their fur-babies.

Beijing-based PetPlus supplies around 2,000 Chinese online and offline businesses with imported pet products. The firm purchases directly from overseas sources and cooperates with local bonded warehouses to deploy a cross-border supply chain to efficiently meet demand.

Sales of pet products on Alibaba Group Holding’s e-commerce platform Tmall Global surged by over 90 percent from January to July year on year, according to data released by Tmall Global.

"The core of the supply chain lies in imported pet food," founder and Chief Executive Officer Tang Ying told Yicai Global recently. The firm has recently bought a 10-year-old pet brand in North America, Tang added, without disclosing the name of the acquisition.

PetPlus raised USD5 million in Series A financing last July. Investors included venture capital firms Lightspeed China Partners and Z&H Investment as well as LB Investment, part of South Korea’s LG Group.

PetPlus has served millions of pet owners since it was set up two years ago, said Charles Zhang, associate partner of Lightspeed China Partners. The ability to serve end consumers and integrate overseas supply chains will determine who will become a leader in this field, he added.
