(Yicai Global) Oct. 26 -- A producer at Tencent Holdings’ video streaming site has been handed over to the authorities on suspicion of breaking the law, but the matter is not connected with actress Zheng Shuang’s tax evasion case, an insider at the Chinese internet giant told Yicai Global today.
Zhang Meng was producer on ‘A Chinese Ghost Story,’ a TV drama starring Zheng, and there have been recent rumors online that he is embroiled in her tax avoidance scandal. Zheng was convicted of evading CNY45.3 million (USD7.1 million) in personal income tax between 2019 and 2020 and fined CNY299 million (USD47 million), Shanghai’s tax authority said in August.
Tencent punished 59 staff members in its latest internal monitoring review conducted in the third quarter, the Shenzhen-based firm said in a recent internal email. Forty-six of them were minor infractions, 13 were serious violations and the employees were either fired or added to the company’s blacklist and three were handed over to the police.
Zhang was not one of the three, it added. Tencent also didn't say why Zhang is being investigated by police.
