Shanghai Administers 820,000 Covid-19 Jabs With No Severe Reactions Shanghai Administers 820,000 Covid-19 Jabs With No Severe Reactions

(Yicai Global) Jan. 20 -- Shanghai finished inoculating a target group of 820,000 against Covid-19 yesterday. About 580,000 took the jab in one dose, while another 240,000-odd received two. No reported severe reactions have emerged thus far, the eastern megacity’s health agency said the same day.

The focus group consists of staffers at airports, Customs and ports, workers in cold-chain food logistics and those related to traffic and transport, healthcare, public security, firefighting and residential communities.

Shanghai also started to urgently inoculate residents heading abroad to work and study from Jan. 7 in the runup to the Chinese New Year holiday that starts on Feb. 11, said Sun Xiaodong, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, adding a total of 7,670 residents had registered online by yesterday, and 3,881 have finished the reservation process, with 1,824 already inoculated.

The financial hub home to over 24 million residents has set up 17 temporary vaccination sites, dispatching at least one experienced emergency medicine specialist and one nurse to ensure the operation of each. These centers are also equipped with essential devices, drugs, ambulances and special vehicles for emergency treatment, allowing timely intervention in the event of adverse effects.

Information about units and staffers administering the shots, cold-chain facilities and vaccines will be uniformly fed into the management system to ensure the source and destination of each one can be tracked.
