(Yicai Global) Jan. 29 -- South Korean music television channel Mnet, owned by CJ E&M Corp., has accused a Chinese reality show broadcast by Baidu-backed video service Iqiyi of plagiarizing one of its programs.

Mnet issued an official statement on Jan. 26, highlighting the similarities between Iqiyi's Idol Producer and its own show, Produce 101. The format, structure and visuals of the show are all akin, as well as the ideas behind them, it said.

China's cyberspace regulator plucked many foreign films and TV shows from domestic online video platforms in July in a move that affected several well-known streaming sites. Bilibili, which hopes to go public this quarter but is struggling to find investors after criticism over non-copyrighted content, and AcFun, which has been around since 2007, both had to remove content from their platforms.

Idol Producer is the first Chinese reality show which looks to put together an iconic boy band through a televised competition. It first aired on Iqiyi on Jan. 19 and acquired more than 100 million views within an hour, hitting a record high for online variety shows and becoming a top trend on online social media platform Weibo, run by Weibo Corp.
