(Yicai Global) June 4 -- The cloud computing arm of China's Tencent Holdings will set up its next four data centers in Bangkok, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, and Tokyo to better serve consumers around the world.
Tencent Cloud will provide its cloud computing technology and industrial digitalization solutions to the public via the centers, the Shenzhen-based company said in a statement on WeChat.
The facility in Tokyo will guarantee enough audio and video capacity for Tencent’s platform to broadcast content related to the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Tencent Cloud has accelerated its international expansion since last year amid the intensifying competition on the home turf. Last March, the company said it will set up its first data center in the Middle East and North Africa, expecting to start operations at the center in Bahrain by December. In April, it opened its first location in Indonesia and its third one in Singapore.
China’s public cloud and infrastructure-as-a-service market exceeded USD15.6 billion by last December, and Alibaba's cloud computing arm held a nearly 41 percent market share, according to a report by IDC. Huawei Cloud and Tencent Cloud each had an 11 percent market share.
Tencent Cloud's network covers 27 regions around the world.
