(Yicai) July 10 -- Renowned scientists, Nobel Prize winners and leading academicians are set to attend the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai later this month, according to the deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai Municipal Government.

More than 1,200 guests from over 30 countries and regions will be in attendance, Zhang Ying said at a press conference today. They include 12 recipients of top international awards, such as the Turing Award and Nobel Prize, more than 80 Chinese and foreign scholars as well representatives from some of the world’s best AI laboratories

This year’s WAIC, which will run from July 26 to 28, will have the theme "Intelligent Era, Global Solidarity” and the challenges of global AI governance will be a particular focus.

The exhibition area will span over 70,000 square meters, with more than 800 companies participating. Around 3,000 cutting-edge technologies will be showcased, including more than 40 large language models, over 50 AI-powered devices, more than 60 humanoid robots and over 80 products that are making their global or China debut. An Industry Roadmap for Humanoid Robots will also be released at the event.

Big names such as AWS, Google, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei, Ant Group, State Grid, KPS and Lenovo are all part of the exhibitor lineup, alongside AI and robotics startups like Zhiyuan Robot, Unitree Robotics, MiniMax, SenseTime, Stepfun and Infinigence AI.

Industry leaders such as Siemens and Schneider Electric will debut AI-driven manufacturing solutions, including Siemens’ Industry Copilot. Meanwhile, robot makers including Tesla, Unitree Robotics, Zhiyuan and Deep Robotics will showcase their latest products. In terms of consumer AI, AI smart glasses developer xReal will unveil new gear.

China will launch the Global Initiative for Open Source Collaboration in AI​​ with international partners, Du Guangda, deputy director-general of the Department of Science and Technology at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said at the press event.

China is already a global front-runner in the AI race. Between 2014 and 2023, there were 54,000 patent applications for generative AI worldwide and China filed 70 percent of them, at 38,000.
