US Commerce Department Rules That China Subsidized Iron Soil Pipe Fittings US Commerce Department Rules That China Subsidized Iron Soil Pipe Fittings

(Yicai Global) Dec. 14 -- The US Department of Commerce initially ruled yesterday that iron soil pipe fittings imported from China were subsidized.

After a preliminary investigation, the commerce department said the fittings received subsidies ranging from 8.66 percent to 102.31 percent, state-owned news agency Xinhua reported. The agency received a complaint from the American Iron Sewage Pipes Association on Aug. 3 this year and opened anti-dumping and anti-subsidy probes into the products.

"The Trump Administration will not sit back and watch as American companies and workers are harmed by unfair government subsidies," said US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. "The United States is committed to free, fair and reciprocal trade, and will continue to validate the information provided to us that brought us to this decision."

As a result of the ruling, US Customs and Border Protection will take deposits from those who import the iron fittings. Imports of the product last year were worth about USD8.6 million, the commerce department estimated.

The US International Trade Commission preliminarily ruled on Aug. 25 that the fittings caused substantial damage to US industries.

The DOC will make a final ruling in April and the trade commission will confirm its ultimate decision in June.

China's Ministry of Commerce frequently asks that the US government stands by its commitment against trade protectionism, maintains a free, open and fair international trade environment and handles trade friction in a more rational way.
