(Yicai Global) Jan. 29 -- China’s Xpeng Motors will recall 13,399 of its G3 electric sport utility vehicles from Jan. 30 due to the risk of loss of power while driving, according to a statement posted today on the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation.

Due to a possible power supply fault of the inverter, the vehicle may not start when parked or lose power when driven. The Guangzhou-based new energy vehicle maker will replace the inverters in the recalled vehicles for free, per the statement.

It is reported that the G3 is Xpeng’s first smart electric vehicle model, and has been on the market for two years. The recall involves G3s made between March 29, 2019 and Sept. 27, 2020.

Xpeng previously said it had delivered 100 G3 vehicles to Norway on Dec. 21. Today’s statement did not indicate whether these had the same fault.

Xpeng delivered 27,041 vehicles last year, a 112 percent increase on 2019. Of the 5,700 handed over in December, 2,009 were G3s, a 35 percent jump from the previous month, and a monthly sales record for last year.
