Audi Will Never Compromise on Security, China President Says Audi Will Never Compromise on Security, China President Says

(Yicai) Dec. 2 -- Audi will never make compromises regarding security, having fully met the vast majority of new rules, while firmly supporting laws and regulations aimed at improving the industry's safety standards, according to the president of the German luxury carmaker's Chinese arm.

Audi relies on its two major partners FAW Group and SAIC Motor to bring its best products to China, Johannes Roscheck recently told Yicai. The Ingolstadt-based carmaker will innovate its flagship products next year, including launching new battery electric vehicles based on its Premium Platform Electric jointly developed by Audi and Porsche and models under SAIC-Audi's new EV brand AUDI, he pointed out.

China's Ministry of Public Security recently issued draft rules seeking public feedback on the national standards for Technical Conditions for the Operation Safety of Motor Vehicles. It added many important standards for new energy vehicles and assisted driving cars, stipulating that the zero to 100 kilometers per hour acceleration capability of such autos must not be less than five seconds, passenger vehicles must ensure that at least two different doors can be used for getting on and off, and cars with electric door handles must be equipped with emergency mechanical release handles with eye-catching signs.

Audi has launched the largest product layout in its brand history in China and unveiled five new localized models in the second half of this year, Roscheck said.

Audi launched a future-oriented brand transformation worldwide and formed its Audi Agenda last year, with China as the core action area to implement the scheme. In addition, the company merged its Software Defined Vehicles and Technology Development departments to promote the research and development of new models with software at the core in January and adjusted its design team in June.

Audi unveiled the E5 Sportback, the first model under the AUDI brand, and the Q6-e-tron, the first model developed based on the PPE, in the second half of this year. Compared with traditional fuel vehicles, foreign luxury carmakers in China have lowered the starting price of EVs, with models from AUDI and Mercedes-Benz's new EV platform priced at around CNY250,000 (USD35,330).
