China Gears Up to Announce Test Specifications for 5G in Phase 3 for Multitrillion-Dollar Industry Chain China Gears Up to Announce Test Specifications for 5G in Phase 3 for Multitrillion-Dollar Industry Chain

(Yicai Global) Jan. 3 -- China's ministry of industry and information technology is expected to release new test specifications for the 5G communication in the third phase, in an effort to push various segments in the industry chain into commercialization stage.

The ministry held a review meeting on the issue yesterday, reported the Shanghai Securities News. The tests in the third phase will mainly focus on the product research and development, verification and industrial collaboration before commercialization, and interconnection tests on the upstream and downstream parts of the industry chain, including systems, chips and instruments, the report said.

The formal specification is expected to be made public within a month after the review meeting, an industry insider suggested.

Miao Wei, China's minister of industry and information technology, last month announced the completion of the second phase tests for 5G technologies, part of which have become national standards. Before initiating the third phase test, the ministry has to formulate test specifications to set out test targets, contents, and indicator requirements that will be involved in this phase.

Industries involved in and supported by 5G technology could offer products and services worth USD12 trillion, suggest data from research organizations. The production value to be generated by the 5G industry chain can reach USD3.5 trillion by 2035, research institutions estimate.
