(Yicai Global) Dec. 11 -- China launched a communications satellite for Algeria early morning today, marking the first such cooperation between the two countries in the space field.

A Long March-3B carrier rocket carrying the Algeria-1 communications satellite took off from China's Xichang Satellite Launch Center at 0:40 am today, Xinhua News Agency reported.

The orbiter is also the North African country's first communications satellite, and will be used for radio and television services, emergency communications, remote education, corporate communications, broadband access and positioning services.

China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp.'s developed the satellite and payload carrier through China Academy of Space Technology and the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, respectively.
