(Yicai Global) Feb. 8 -- China has submitted a request to negotiate with the U.S. via its Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organization in Switzerland after America began imposing import tariffs on washing machines and solar products.

"We have taken the corresponding measures in accordance with the relevant WTO rules," said Gao Feng, spokesman for China's Ministry of Commerce, in a press briefing today. "Per the WTO's agreement on safeguards, all relevant, interested parties can negotiate with the initiator over trade compensatory measures within 30 days from their announcement. China is in talks with the US about a specific time for negotiations."

The U.S. International Trade Commission announced on Jan. 22 that American manufacturers suffered severe losses due to the Chinese imports, and with approval from President Donald Trump slapped on anti-dumping tariffs of up to 50 percent.
