(Yicai Global) Dec. 11 -- China has suspended a French dairy firm from registering new products in the country after reports of salmonella in its infant formula, the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA) said on its website on Dec. 6.

The French Ministry of Health announced on Dec. 2 that it had recalled milk powder made by Lactallis Group due to suspected salmonella infection. It confirmed the manufacturer was Celia Laiterie de Craon, which was able to register products in China. None of the problematic batches arrived in China, the CNCA said.

There are 26 infants in France who became sick after drinking the Lactallis powder, though no deaths have been reported. There have been no foreign cases so far, though the firm operates in a broad range of countries and the recall could also affect the UK, Pakistan and Sudan. It is extremely difficult to track the contaminated batches, Paris-based news outlet Agence France-Presse reported.

The manufacturer failed to fully identify potential risks and take effective control of biological hazards that might exist in its production process, the administration gave as the reason for taking away the firm's rights to register products, which came into effect from Dec. 5.
