(Yicai Global) Sept. 14 -- China's internet watchdog has required 64 websites, including movie and book forums platform Douban.Com, as well as video applications iQiyi and TV.Sohu.Com, to remove content that is inappropriate for minors while closing over 6,900 illegal sites for good.

The National Cyberspace Administration of China has also pulled the plug on 860,000 illegal groups or accounts, it published in a WeChat article today. The sites suspended for rectification were showing vulgar content, some of which lured teenagers to adore celebrities, it added.

Six platforms, including Sina Weibo and Douban.Com, tried to persuade minors to support certain signers or actors while enticing kids to write insulting comments, according to the CAC. Online community Baidu Tieba was spreading violent animations.

Kids were not safe even during online classes. Five sites, such as 2345 Explorer, iQiyi, Baidu's input method, and Cheetah Browser, push pop-up notifications -- some of which include vulgar content -- during teenagers' online classes, according to the article.

Some educational sites were also slammed. The related channels of TV.Sohu.Com, Youku and Mango TV were promoting games, movies and TV dramas, as well as shopping, which was irrelevant to the topic at hand. Some homework platforms were no better.
