Trina Solar’s Shares Rise After Chinese Firm Reveals Plan to Build Large Base in UAE Trina Solar’s Shares Rise After Chinese Firm Reveals Plan to Build Large Base in UAE

(Yicai) Oct. 19 -- Shares of Trina Solar gained after the Chinese photovoltaic equipment giant said it build a production base in the United Arab Emirates covering all aspects of the industry chain to further its business in the Middle East and contribute to the development and use of green energy in the UAE.

Trina Solar [SHA: 688599] closed up 1.6 percent at CNY28.93 (USD3.95) a share today, after earlier climbing by as much as 3.4 percent. The wider Shanghai market fell 1.7 percent.

The plant will have an annual output capacity of about 50,000 tons of high-purity silicon, 30 gigawatts of silicon wafers, and 5 GW of battery modules, Trina Solar said late yesterday. The project will be located in the China-UAE Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Park in the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi and will be completed in three phases, it added.

Trina Solar inked an agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports and Jiangsu Provincial Overseas Cooperation and Investment, the operators of the KIZAD and the demonstration park, respectively, on Oct. 18 during the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, the firm noted, without disclosing any financial details.

Changzhou-based Trina Solar will send representatives to the UAE to conduct field research and draw up project documents, including feasibility studies and business investment plans, it said.

The low-carbon economy trend is driving the development of green energy development and use in the Middle East in partnership with a number of Chinese industry giants.

TCL Zhonghuan Renewable Energy Technology and Saudi Arabia's clean energy developer Vision Industries agreed in May to build the first solar wafer joint venture plant in the Middle Eastern country. The project's first phase will have a capacity of 20 GW, with the plant’s products to be mainly sold in the Middle East and Africa, the Tianjin-based firm said on Oct. 17.
