(Yicai Global) Sept. 19 -- Sichuan-based electrical equipment maker Dongfang Electric Corp. Ltd. [SHA:600875] has successfully developed a nuclear generator for the CAP1400 reactor, a major national project.

The firm recently tested the 1550-megawatt generator, state-owned news agency Xinhua reported. The results showed that the units delivered good performance, with integrated technical indicators at an international level.

Dongfang secured the contract to develop the generator in 2012.

Run by the State Nuclear Power Technology Corp. and China Huaneng Group in 2009, the CAP1400 plant is based in Weihai in eastern Shandong province. It comprises two pressurized water reactor units and is a symbol of China's self-development in third-generation nuclear power technology.

The nuclear generator claims 13 national patents, covering design and development, testing and verification and manufacturing specification.
