(Yicai Global) Dec. 2 -- Dutch specialty chemicals giant Nouryon Holding put its biggest organic peroxide plant into full operation yesterday in the Chinese city of Tianjin to meet growing demand from Asia’s packaging, paint and coatings, and construction industries, The Paper reported.
The plant is equipped with an advanced wastewater treatment system and other facilities for environmental protection, the report said, adding that its world-class safe processes can cut waste and exhaust emissions, as well as conserve water and energy.
Asia is an important growth market for Amsterdam-based Nouryon and building an organic peroxide base in Tianjin is a major milestone for the company’s development, Charles Shaver, chairman and chief executive, was cited as saying.
The strategic investment shows that the firm is committed to continuous growth and is focused on creating sustainable innovative solutions with local partners to meet current and future social needs, Shaver added.
Formed in 2018 when Dutch paint giant Akzo Nobel spun off its specialty chemicals division, Nouryon is a global leader in the industry and has businesses in over 80 countries. It entered the Chinese market in the 1990s, when it was called Akzo Nobel Specialty Chemicals. Nouryon has seven production bases in the country.
In Asia, Nouryon produces organic peroxides in the Chinese cities of Ningbo and Tianjin as well as in Japan and India. It recently announced the commissioning of new facilities in Ningbo to produce two key intermediates for polymers and composites.
