Dyson to Recall 116,300 Air Purifier Fans in China Over Safety Risks Dyson to Recall 116,300 Air Purifier Fans in China Over Safety Risks

(Yicai Global) Dec. 13 -- Dyson Trading Shanghai Co. plans to recall 116,300 hot and cold air purifier fans from the Chinese market because of concerns over their safe use, according to China's product quality watchdog.

The recall involves models HP00, HP01, HP02 and HP03 made in Malaysia between Oct. 1, 2015 and June 30 this year, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said today. Dyson earlier filed a notice with the regulator.

The issue lies in the "important instruction on safety" notice in the specifications, Dyson said. It does not indicate "the product shall not be placed under the power outlet directly" in contravention of regulations on product labeling and instructions. This may lead to improper use, which could result in safety risks.

The high-tech household appliances of parent Dyson Ltd. include iconic vacuum cleaners, bladeless fans and hair dryers. The UK-based company has a lucrative and expanding business in China as its product lines become increasingly popular. Its HP00 air purifier fan retails for about CNY5,000 (USD758) in the country.
