LeEco's HK Unit Petitions to Be Wound Up After Creditors File Debt Claims LeEco's HK Unit Petitions to Be Wound Up After Creditors File Debt Claims

(Yicai Global) Dec. 21 -- Le Corp., the Hong Kong arm of the debt-ridden Chinese tech group LeEco, filed a petition to the territory's High Court to wind up the company today, Ming Pao Daily News reported. Several businesses had previously filed claims that the firm owes them money.

Hong Kong Economic Times Group hoped to recover advertising fees and Sundream Motion Pictures was looking for HKD174 million (USD222,300) in license fees. A marketing firm claimed more than HKD14.6 million in service fees and an information technology service provider filed to a district court for payment of HKD1.04 million. Three Indian firms filed at the High Court in January, seeking more than HKD47 million in advertising fees.

Leshi Holding (Beijing) Co. founder Jia Yueting resigned from all his positions at the group's listed unit, Leshi Internet Information and Technology Corp. [SHE:300104], in July.

Jia promised to repay all debts and requested more time in a social media post at the time. A spokesman for Le Corp. had said that its business was not affected back then.

Despite support from Sunac China Holdings Ltd. Chairman Sun Hongbin, LeEco is still facing a cash crisis. Lenders have repeatedly gone after Leshi in Chinese courts. Some slept outside Leshi's Beijing headquarters and wore "pay back the money" T-shirts.

Leshi entered the Hong Kong market in 2015.
