Mercedes-Benz to Recall Over 20,000 Cars in China Over Sunroof Glass Hazard Mercedes-Benz to Recall Over 20,000 Cars in China Over Sunroof Glass Hazard

(Yicai Global) Feb. 24 -- Mercedes-Benz Group will recall 20,740 cars in China because of a potential risk from the sunroof glass panel, according to the State Administration of Market Regulation.

Mercedes-Benz China will call back 13,373 imported Class C, Class CLK, Class CLS, and Class E vehicles produced between Aug. 6, 2003, and July 13, 2010, the SAMR said in a notice yesterday.

Beijing Benz Automotive, the joint venture between BAIC Motor, Mercedes-Benz, and Daimler China, will recall 7,367 China-made Class C and Class E autos produced between July 9, 2004, and March 20, 2009, the regulator said.

Mercedes-Benz is recalling the cars because the bonding durability between the sliding sunroof glass panel and the sunroof frame is insufficient, which may cause the glass panel to break, increasing the risk of accidents.
