(Yicai Global) Dec. 20 -- Yesterday, China Evergrande Group [HK:3333] and China Vanke Co. [SHE:000002] won bids for some land parcels in Shenzhen Bay super headquarters base in Nanshan district of the city in the southern Guangdong province, which is often regarded as China's tech hub. The acquisitions may indicate that the two companies may relocate their headquarters to the base, observers believe.

The rack price of the two land parcels was CNY8.69 billion (or USD1.31 billion), the Paper reported. Vanke acquired a land parcel of 19,227 square meters for CNY3.14 billion, with the gross floor area (GFA) of 167,000 square meters. China Evergrande won the bid with CNY5.55 billion for a land parcel covering an area of 10,376.82 square meters, with the GFA of 289,200 square meters.

The super headquarters base in Shenzhen Bay is a concept proposed by the municipal government of Shenzhen in 2007, and was designed as a base for head offices of Fortune Global 500 companies. In the future, the Shenzhen Bay will become a global high-end industry cluster and a world-class urban functional center, the local government says.

Yu Liang, chairman and CEO of Vanke Co., had a field survey in the super headquarters base in Shenzhen Bay in 2015, and held discussions with the officials of the Nanshan district local government about the site for a possible new head office for the company.

Before property giants' bids yesterday, eight land parcels were sold in the base. Enterprises which plan to set their presence in the base include China Merchants Bank Co. [SHA: 600036] and ZTE Corporation [SHE:000063], as well as some other financial and technology enterprises.
