(Yicai Global) April 7 -- Hangzhou Mokuai Technology, a Tencent Holdings-backed startup that provides a digital marketplace for online key opinion leaders to sell on, has raised over CNY100 million (USD14.1 million) in its C round.
Shanghai Zhongyuan Capital Management led the round with support from Gaorong Capital, The Paper reported.
Mokuai primarily services web celebs on short video platform Kuaishou by providing them with software-as-a-service that helps them sell goods. It has over a million registered influencers and also runs a coaching service to help them ramp up sales.
The firm's biggest income source is from service fees and sales-based commissions. It runs a complete supply chain offering hundreds of thousands of food, cosmetics and daily-use products for digital stars to sell, and handles shipping and after-sales services for the sellers.
Kuaishou joined Mokuai as a strategic investor in 2018 and the startup, founded in 2015 by a team including former Alibaba Group Holding workers, has also secured funding from e-commerce platform Vipshop Holdings.
