Tencent Forecasts 10% Growth in China's Gaming Market Revenue Tencent Forecasts 10% Growth in China's Gaming Market Revenue

(Yicai Global) May 22 -- China's gaming market is likely to rise around 10 percent in actual sales revenue to CNY230 billion (USD33.3 billion), thanks to the in-depth development of segmented products.

This was the finding of a study by the world's largest game firm Shenzhen's Tencent Holdings and Beijing-based gaming surveyor Gamma Data, the results of which they jointly announced today.

CNG chief analyst Wang Xu released the report today at the 2019 Tencent Global Digital Ecosystem Summit which runs from May 21 to May 23 in Kunming, capital of China's southwestern Yunnan province. Revenue growth in China's gaming market is likely to rebound after a sharp drop last year, Wang predicted. Growth was down 18 percentage points from 2017 at only 5.3 percent last year,

Development of segmented products this year is the  major force driving growth, Wang explained, adding many of the top 10  grossing mobile games are representative products in segmented fields, which indicates the  next impetus for market growth after user and streaming dividends will come from  exploring gamers' needs.

Actual sales revenuewill be CNY150 billion this year with growth slightly faster than last year's 15.4 percent, the report projects, and gamesters' ranks will slowly swell to 640 million from last year's 630 million.

Commercial application of the new fifth-generation communication technologies will start next year, and China's 5G users will multiply to 500 million in five years, which will release a great potential for cloud gaming, the report noted.

Cloud gaming is a new mode where games are run and calculated on cloud servers that will significantly lower performance requirements for terminal devices.
