(Yicai Global) May 25 -- Chinese video-sharing platform Douyin, known outside of China as TikTok, was the world’s top earning mobile application last month, according to a recent survey.

Operator Beijing-based tech giant ByteDance raked in USD78 million through the App Store and Google Play in April, 10 times more than it did a year earlier, according to US market analytics firm Sensor Tower.

Just under 90 percent of this revenue came from China, while the second-largest contribution of 8.2 percent came from the US, it said.

Rival YouTube ranked second place with revenue of USD76 million, a jump of 57 percent from the same period last year. Its main market was in the US where users accounted for 56 percent of its income, while Japanese users made up 11 percent.

Two other Chinese video streaming apps, Tencent Holdings’ Tencent Video and Baidu-backed iQiyi, made the list, coming in fifth and seventh respectively.
