(Yicai) Sept. 9 -- Xiaomi, a major Chinese maker of consumer electronics and electric vehicles, has dismissed Wang Teng for leaking confidential information less than 10 months after the company promoted him to general manager of its China marketing department.
Wang leaked company secrets and was involved in serious violations of discipline and company rules, including conflicts of interest, Xiaomi said in an internal e-mail yesterday, noting that he was let go in accordance with the Beijing-based firm's regulations.
“I’m very ashamed and want to apologize to everyone,” Wang posted on social media platform Weibo. "I made some mistakes and I accept the due consequences.
“I'm very grateful to Lei Jun, founder and chief executive of Xiaomi, and other company leaders for their help and trust over the past years and I am sad to leave the firm,” Wang added. “I will always support Xiaomi and its sub-brand Redmi.”
Wang joined Xiaomi in 2016 and was appointed as product director of its sub-brand Redmi in March 2020. He was promoted to marketing GM for China on Dec. 31 last year, while concurrently serving as GM of Redmi, according to his Weibo account.
Lei has publicly praised Wang on multiple occasions, once saying: “Wang is an all-rounder of Xiaomi's young managers. He has worked in four different positions during his eight years at the firm.”
