China Seeks to Improve Housing, Healthcare, Elderly Care, Ministers Say China Seeks to Improve Housing, Healthcare, Elderly Care, Ministers Say

(Yicai Global) Sept. 27 -- China will enhance the housing market, stabilize employment, make medical treatment easier to access, and further widen the elderly care sector to improve residents' social conditions, a group of ministers said at a press conference yesterday.

China will accelerate the development of its public and rental housing markets to support migrant workers, as well as low-income and middle class citizens, said Wang Menghui, the minister of housing and urban-rural development.

The nation will open up its elderly care sector to enhance these services, said Huang Shuxian, minister of civil affairs.

China will integrate its regional resources, build more hospitals, and reform its medical insurance programs to make it easier and more affordable to consult a doctor, said Ma Xiaowei, director of the National Health Commission.

China will also reduce its social security burden on corporations by slashing their contributions by over CNY300 billion (USD42.1 billion) this year, according to Zhang Jinan, minister of human resources and social security. The nation will reward firms that hire those who have difficulties in finding jobs by preferential tax and loan policies, he added.

In comparison to these fields, education is going strong as the sector has become China's largest field of government spending, according to Chen Baosheng, minister of education. Since 2012, the nation has been expending a sum equal to 4 percent of its gross domestic product in education each year, he added.
