(Yicai Global) Aug. 7 -- Guo Dongbai has reportedly taken up the chief technology officer’s role at Chinese auto trader Chehaoduo Group after leaving the same post at Lazada Group, the Alibaba-owned southeast Asian e-commerce platform.

Guo joined Chehaoduo last month, replacing Zhang Xiaopei who departed in May, financial we-media Caijingtuya reported today.

Guo previously worked for more than 10 years at US tech titans Oracle, Microsoft and Amazon. He joined Alibaba Group Holding’s cross-border e-commerce platform AliExpress in 2014 and was promoted to Lazada CTO in 2018, where he was in charge of six research and development centers and more than 600 engineers.

Zhang left Chehaoduo after four years on the job to become a partner at venture capital firm Hike Capital. Chehaoduo founder Mark Yang and Anna Xu, NetEase’s former general manager of mobile internet, set up Hike Capital in 2015.

Chehaoduo has brought in former Alibaba senior executives on many occasions, including Lei Yanqun, who oversaw Alibaba’s supplier-related business departments and served as Chehaoduo’s chief operating officer in 2018. Deng Kangming, former chief human resources officer of Alibaba, also became executive president of Chehaoduo in 2018. The two left earlier this year for personal reasons.

Chehaoduo, formerly known as Guazi, a used-car trading platform formed in 2015, upgraded after setting up Maodou, a new car sales platform, in 2017, and has secured about USD4 billion in financing. Chehaoduo made its first profit in the fourth quarter of last year, it said in January.

But at the beginning of this year, executives departed in succession and their were reports of large-scale layoffs at the firm. It also announced pay cuts due to the Covid-19 pandemic at the end of February.
