(Yicai Global) Oct. 9 – Shanghai's Xuhui district held a special photographic exhibition featuring images of local street cleaners at work during the eight-day National Day holiday (Oct. 1 to 8).

The best works will go on show at prime locations throughout the shopping and entertainment precinct. The district has also set up permanent rest stations for sanitation workers offering shelter from inclement weather and drinking water, state-run Xinhua news agency recently reported.

The female sanitation team at has 99 members who keep 23 streets and over 140 trash cans clean. The exhibition features over 100 photos of local sanitation workers taken by more than 20 professional photographers who spent 10 days working together with the cleaners this summer.

Shanghai called on local governments and departments to build 'communities with warmth' in a drive to innovate public services at the grassroots level. Xuhui has created five rest stations for sanitation workers. A local private hotel followed suit and set up an electric water heater outside its entrance to supply drinking water for cleaners and passers-by free of charge. Many local businesses and organizations have provided similar facilities to let sanitation workers take a break and ease their work.
